This guide will help you set up and use your A&D UA-651BLE Blood Pressure Monitor. Please follow the steps carefully to ensure accurate and safe measurements.
Overview of the Device
The A&D UA-651BLE Blood Pressure Monitor is designed for home use to measure systolic and diastolic blood pressure, as well as pulse rate. It offers Bluetooth functionality to pair with smartphones and health apps for easier data tracking. This monitor is user-friendly and provides reliable readings if used correctly.
Precautions
Before using your device, please read the following safety precautions:
Avoid extreme conditions: Keep the device away from direct sunlight, high temperatures, humidity, dust, and shock to prevent malfunction.
Keep device dry: This device is not water-resistant. Avoid exposure to moisture from rain, sweat, or spills.
Clean gently: Use a soft cloth dampened with water and a mild detergent. Avoid alcohol, benzene, or harsh chemicals.
Prevent strangulation hazards: Keep air hoses away from infants and children.
Bluetooth interference: Keep the device away from wireless routers, microwaves, or other devices that emit radio waves.
Installing and Changing the Batteries
Remove the battery cover: This is located at the bottom of the device.
Insert new batteries: Use four AA batteries, ensuring the correct polarity (+/-) is followed.
Replace the battery cover: Snap it back into place securely.
Battery replacement: When the battery indicator appears low, replace all batteries with new ones. Do not mix old and new batteries.
Connecting the Air Hose
Insert the air connector plug into the air socket on the left side of the monitor.
Ensure the connection is firm to prevent any air leaks during measurement.
Using the Wireless Function
To take advantage of Bluetooth connectivity, you can sync your blood pressure data with a compatible smartphone or tablet.
Bluetooth Interference: Keep the device away from strong electromagnetic fields and Bluetooth routers. Make sure your monitor and the paired device are in a clear line of sight.
Bluetooth Pairing
Download the HealthBridge app from the App Store or Google Play on your mobile device. You can download HealthBridge by visiting your app store on your smartphone:
Activate pairing mode:
With HealthBridge open, select Connections or “Connect BP Cuff” from the ToDo section. Next, select A&D UA-651BLE from the device list.
On the BP cuff, press and hold the Start button on the monitor until "pr" appears on the screen.
Your monitor is now in pairing mode for one minute.
Complete pairing:
You may now release the Start button and allow pairing to complete. Follow the instructions provided by the HealthBridge App.
On your mobile device, when the "Bluetooth Pairing Request" popup appears following the display of "Pr" on the BP monitor, choose either "Pair" or "Allow" (for iOS or Android.)
Pairing confirmation:
If the pairing is successful, "end" will appear on the monitor’s display. If pairing fails, see the last section of this guide.
If you have previously used your monitor, those readings will be uploaded to HealthBridge. If you’re taking a reading for the first time, follow the instructions below to measure your blood pressure correctly.
Applying the Arm Cuff
Choose the correct cuff size: Ensure the cuff fits your upper arm's circumference.
Adult cuff: 22 cm to 32 cm (catalog number CUF-F-A)
Large adult cuff: 31 cm to 45 cm (catalog number CUF-F-LA)
Position the cuff: Place the cuff around the upper arm (1-2 cm above the elbow) with the air hose aligned with the inside of your arm.
Ensure proper fit: The index mark on the cuff should fall within the range markings to confirm a correct fit.
How to Take Measurements
Sit correctly:
Sit comfortably with your feet flat on the floor.
Rest your arm on a table, with the cuff at heart level.
Start the measurement:
Press the Start button on the monitor.
The cuff will automatically inflate, and you’ll feel some tightness around your arm.
During measurement:
Stay still and quiet.
The monitor will display your systolic, diastolic, and pulse rate once the measurement is complete.
After measurement:
Remove the cuff and turn off the device.
If using Bluetooth, your readings will automatically sync with your paired device.
Understanding Your Results
Your blood pressure is displayed in two numbers:
Systolic pressure (the upper number): Indicates the pressure in your arteries when your heart beats.
Diastolic pressure (the lower number): Indicates the pressure in your arteries between heartbeats.
The World Health Organization (WHO) provides a standard classification for blood pressure:
Normal: Systolic less than 120 mmHg and diastolic less than 80 mmHg.
Hypertension: Systolic 140 mmHg or higher and diastolic 90 mmHg or higher.
Troubleshooting
Problem: Device does not turn on
Ensure batteries are inserted correctly.
Replace drained batteries.
Problem: Readings seem inaccurate
Ensure the cuff is applied correctly.
Sit still during measurement.
Verify that the cuff is positioned at heart level.
Problem: The device will not pair
Update your smartphone or device's operating system:
Ensure your smartphone or tablet is running the latest OS version, as older versions may have compatibility issues with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices.
Enable Bluetooth and BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy):
Verify that Bluetooth is turned on in your phone’s settings, and confirm that BLE is enabled for compatibility with your monitor.
Forget the device from your Bluetooth settings:
Go to your device’s Bluetooth settings, locate the A&D UA-651BLE in the list of previously paired devices, and select "Forget" or "Unpair."
Restart your smartphone or tablet:
After forgetting the device, reboot your phone or tablet to refresh its Bluetooth connections.
Repeat the pairing process:
Turn on the monitor and put it in pairing mode by pressing and holding the Start button until "pr" appears on the screen. Then follow the instructions on your device to pair it again.
