Validic is pleased to announce the addition of “active duration” as a standard field in our Routine data object. Customers will now receive the values for “active duration” from five separate integrations including Fitbit, Jawbone, Garmin, TomTom and Under Armour.

What is Active Duration?
Active duration is typically defined as the number of seconds that someone has performed moderate to vigorous activity.

Why are you adding active duration?
Active duration has been widely requested by customers as another means to measure the amount of physical activity performed in a standardized way.

What does active duration tell us?
Active duration is a standardized value in Validic that is aggregated through the day.  The value shows the number of minutes during which the individual was active, according to the device.  Each integration may have a slightly different method for calculating active duration.  Please note that most vendors do not make the details of this algorithm available.

What if we already pull active duration with the expanded filter?
The non-standardized data from each data source is still available when the expanded call is made but we encourage the use of the standard field whenever possible.
