How to Connect
The following videos and tutorials will help you understand how to pair the device. We’ll also share some steps to troubleshoot as well.
Connecting the FORA IR20b Ear Thermometer to your phone
Before you Begin
Make sure your mobile device is up-to-date! Check your settings and install all outstanding updates. You can choose not to do this; however, you may have problems pairing the device. Think about it like servicing your car before a long trip.
Get close! You must ensure the FORA IR20b Ear Thermometer is close to your phone. We suggest you place them beside each other.
Connecting
No Pairing Required!
The FORA IR20b Ear Thermometer does not “pair” like a traditional Bluetooth device. It does not require walking through a pairing sequence like some devices. All the user must do is open the application and take the reading. Once the reading is complete, the thermometer broadcasts the reading, and the mobile phone will collect the reading. Think about broadcast TV. In this case, the thermometer is the TV station, and your smartphone is the TV. The critical difference is that only one application can collect the reading when working with this type of connectivity. That means it is crucial that you only use this thermometer with the application provided by your care team.
Taking Your Temperature
For the best results…
Open the application your care team directed you to use. With the application open, sit close to your phone. The FORA IR20b Ear Thermometer has a short broadcasting range, so this will ensure your app is ready to collect the reading and the thermometer can reach the device.
Step One: Insert the tip of the thermometer into the probe cover.
Please press until you hear a click and the probe cover cannot be removed.
YOU MUST USE A PROBE COVER WITH THE THERMOMETER, OR IT WILL NOT TAKE A READING.
Step Two: Press and release the On/Memory button to turn on the thermometer.
When ready, the thermometer displays the last measurement.
Step Three: Gently fit the probe with a clean probe cover into the ear canal.
For best results:
Please don't take a reading while moving and/or talking. Wait for 30 minutes after any of the following situations before taking a measurement:
When the ear has been covered.
After exercising, swimming, or taking a bath.
When the patient has been exposed to extreme temperatures.
The ear must be free from excessive earwax buildup to take accurate readings.
Step Four: Press and release the Scan button on the back of the device.
When you hear a beep, it indicates the measurement is complete and the thermometer can be removed.
If you do not hear a beep, press the correct button and try again. The button under the screen is the power; the button on the back of the device takes the temperature.
Step Five: Ensure reading is received by smartphone.
You will notice a blue flashing light at the bottom of the thermometer. It will begin to broadcast the results. If your monitoring app is open on your smartphone and close by, you will hear a beep to indicate the reading was received, and the thermometer will turn off. If this does not happen, open the phone and the application provided by your care team. When the application is opened, you should hear the thermometer beep and power off, indicating the reading has been received.
Step Five: Discard the probe cover.
Press the ejection button to discard the used probe cover into a trash can.
Note
The probe is not waterproof. Please wipe it with a clean and dry cotton swab. The body of the thermometer is not water-resistant. Never put the thermometer under a running tap or submerge it in water. You can use a soft and dry cloth to clean it. Please don't use abrasive cleaners.
Troubleshooting
Update! Make sure you update your mobile device.
The application provided by your care team must be open on your smartphone. It does not have to be in the foreground, but it must be open. If you’re unsure what it means to have an application open in the background, the best practice is to open your application while taking your temperature.
Get close! Place your mobile device beside the FORA IR20b Ear Thermometer. If they're too far apart, the signal will weaken, and the broadcast will fail.
If the device doesn't take a reading, please make sure you use the plastic tip provided by your care team. It should fit snugly to the device.
Make sure the tip is set correctly in the ear canal.
You can only use this with the application provided by your care team. Do not install another application that may attempt to collect data from this device. Please do not use it on a tablet or another smartphone. Only use it on your primary smartphone, using the application provided by your care team.
