SmartMeter iBlood Pressure Classic - Quick Start Guide
This Quick Start Guide will walk you through the steps to unbox, set up, and take a successful blood pressure reading with the SmartMeter iBlood Pressure Classic. For further details, please consult the full manual, which should always be your primary source of product information.
The More You Know
The SmartMeter iBlood Pressure Classic is a cellular-enabled device, meaning it does not require a mobile application to operate. After each blood pressure measurement, your results are automatically transmitted via a secure cellular connection and streamed directly to your care team, ensuring real-time monitoring and seamless data sharing without any additional steps. This means, no smart phones or tablets are required for this setup.
Step 1: Unboxing the Device
Inside the box, you should find:
The SmartMeter Blood Pressure Monitor.
Arm cuff (fits arm circumference of 22–45 cm).
4 AA batteries
User manual.
Inspect the device for any visible damage. If damaged, do not use the monitor and contact customer support.
Step 2: Installing the Batteries
Your device may come with batteries installed. If so, pull the plastic tab found near the battery compartment, and skip this step.
Open the battery compartment on the monitor's back by sliding off the cover.
Insert 4 AA batteries, ensuring that the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals align with the markings inside the compartment.
Close the battery cover securely.
Note: Replace batteries when the display dims or the monitor fails to power on.
Step 3: Setting Up the Cuff
Connect the cuff: Plug the tube connector into the “Cuff Port” on the side of the monitor.
Position the cuff:
Slide your arm through the cuff, ensuring it is positioned 2–3 cm (1 inch) above your elbow.
The marker on the cuff should be aligned with the center of your arm.
Tighten the cuff: Wrap the cuff snugly around your arm, leaving enough space to slide one finger between your arm and the cuff.
Relax before measuring: Sit in a comfortable position with your arm resting at heart level and your palm facing upward. Remain still and quiet for a few minutes before starting the measurement.
Step 4: Taking a Blood Pressure Measurement
Start the monitor: Press the Start/Stop button. The cuff will automatically inflate and begin the measurement process.
Stay still: While the cuff inflates, remain seated, quiet, and still. Avoid any movement or talking as it can affect the accuracy of the reading.
View your results: After the cuff deflates, your systolic and diastolic blood pressure, as well as your pulse rate, will display on the screen.
Understanding Your Results:
Systolic pressure: The top number representing the pressure in your arteries during a heartbeat.
Diastolic pressure: The bottom number representing the pressure in your arteries between heartbeats.
Pulse rate: Measured in beats per minute.
Step 5: Transmitting Your Data
Automatic data transmission: After the measurement, the monitor will automatically transmit your results via cellular communication to cloud storage. A blinking transmission icon indicates that the data is being sent.
Successful transmission: Once the data is successfully sent, the transmission icon will disappear, and the monitor will turn off automatically.
Transmission failure: If transmission fails, an error message (e.g., E6) will appear. The monitor will attempt to resend the data during the next successful connection.
Troubleshooting and Error Codes
While the device is designed for ease of use, you may encounter occasional issues. Below are common error messages and solutions.
E1: Movement During Measurement
Cause: Movement or talking during the measurement process.
Solution: Sit still with your feet flat on the floor and arm supported at heart level. Avoid talking or moving.
E2: Cuff Not Applied Correctly
Cause: The cuff may be too tight, too loose, or improperly positioned.
Solution: Ensure the cuff is wrapped evenly around your upper arm, 2–3 cm above the elbow, and that it is snug but not too tight.
E3: Weak Pulse Signal
Cause: The device was unable to detect a strong pulse.
Solution: Ensure the cuff is properly fitted and try again. Rest for a few minutes if necessary.
E4: Calibration Error
Cause: An issue with the device calibration.
Solution: Turn off the monitor, wait a few moments, and try again. If the problem persists, contact customer service.
E5: AC Adapter Connection Issue
Cause: The AC adapter is not properly connected.
Solution: Ensure the AC adapter is securely connected to both the monitor and the power outlet.
E6: Data Transmission Error
Cause: The device failed to transmit data to the cloud.
Solution: Ensure there is a proper cellular connection and retry. Contact customer support if the issue persists.
