This guide provides essential information for using the SmartMeter Blood Pressure Monitor (Model SMBP802-GS-001). Follow these steps to ensure proper use and accurate measurements.
Overview of the Device
The SmartMeter Blood Pressure Monitor uses the oscillometric method to measure systolic and diastolic blood pressure, as well as pulse rate. It also features cellular result transmission, automatically sending your readings to cloud storage for easier tracking.
Key features:
Cellular transmission
LCD display
Inflation technology for accurate results
Arm cuff for adult use (22 cm to 45 cm circumference)
Precautions
Before using the device, follow these important precautions:
Avoid electromagnetic interference: Keep the monitor at least 13 feet (4 meters) away from devices like cell phones, wireless routers, or microwave ovens to prevent signal disruption.
Not suitable for all patients: Do not use the device if you are pregnant, have a pacemaker, or other implanted electrical devices. Consult a physician if you have health conditions such as arrhythmia.
Cuff positioning: Ensure proper placement of the cuff on the upper arm for accurate results. Avoid using the cuff on an arm with an intravenous drip or a wound.
Installing and Replacing the Batteries
Open the battery compartment: Slide the cover at the back of the monitor to open it.
Insert 4 AA batteries: Ensure correct polarity by aligning the positive and negative signs with the diagram inside the battery compartment.
Close the battery cover: Secure the cover before use.
Replace the batteries when necessary: If the display dims or the monitor does not turn on, replace all 4 AA batteries with new ones.
Setting Up the Cuff
Connect the cuff: Insert the cuff tube connector into the designated port on the monitor.
Position the cuff: Slide your arm through the cuff loop, positioning it about 2–3 cm (1 inch) above the elbow. Ensure the cuff’s marker aligns with the center of your arm.
Tighten the cuff: Wrap the cuff evenly around your arm, leaving space for one finger between the cuff and your arm. Ensure it is snug but not too tight.
Relax before measurement: Sit comfortably with your arm resting at heart level and your palm facing up.
Taking a Measurement
Start the monitor: Press the Start/Stop button. The cuff will automatically inflate and start measuring your blood pressure.
Remain still: Sit quietly while the cuff inflates and deflates. Avoid talking or moving your arm during the process.
Review your results: After the measurement, your systolic, diastolic pressure, and pulse rate will display on the screen.
Transmitting Data
Automatic data transmission: After the measurement, the monitor transmits the results using cellular communication. The transmission icon blinks on the display during this process.
Transmission success: If the transmission is successful, the icon will disappear, and the device will automatically power off.
Transmission failure: An error code (e.g., E6) will appear if the transmission fails. The results will be sent automatically during the next successful cellular connection.
Understanding Your Results
Your blood pressure reading consists of two numbers:
Systolic pressure: The upper number, indicating pressure in your arteries when your heart beats.
Diastolic pressure: The lower number, representing the pressure in your arteries when your heart rests between beats.
American Heart Association Blood Pressure Categories:
Normal: Less than 120/80 mmHg
Elevated: 120-129 systolic and less than 80 diastolic
Hypertension Stage 1: 130-139 systolic or 80-89 diastolic
Hypertension Stage 2: 140 or higher systolic or 90 or higher diastolic
Hypertensive Crisis: Higher than 180/120 mmHg (Seek immediate medical attention)
Troubleshooting
Common issues and solutions:
Device won’t turn on: Check if the batteries are installed correctly or replace the batteries if necessary.
Error codes during measurement:
E1: Movement detected during measurement. Relax and try again.
E6: Data transmission failure. Try again later or check cellular signal strength.
Out-of-range error: Ensure the cuff is applied correctly and try again.
If issues persist, refer to the full troubleshooting section in your manual or contact customer support.
Maintenance and Care
Storage: Keep the device in a dry, cool place. Avoid exposure to dust, heat, or direct sunlight.
Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the device. Do not immerse it in water or use harsh chemicals. Avoid washing the cuff.
Battery care: Remove the batteries if the device will not be used for a long period to avoid leakage.
Device check-up: It is recommended to have the device inspected for accuracy every two years.
By following these instructions, you can use your SmartMeter Blood Pressure Monitor efficiently and keep track of your blood pressure over time. For more information or assistance, please refer to the full manual or contact SmartMeter customer support.
